This is not an infusion class

Most “make your own spirit” experiences hand you ready-made alcohol and botanicals to soak. This isn't that. You'll charge a copper still and distil a bottle that didn't exist before you arrived — and you'll understand why rum, of all spirits, belongs to Brixton.

The Afternoon

It ends with a bottle.
It starts with the streets.

Guests settling in around the distillery tables with coffee, juices and jars of spices

01 — Arrive

Ring the doorbell at Impact Brixton

The distillery is inside, in the heart of Brixton Village. Come a little early if you like — drop your bag, grab a coffee, settle in. Your host is a Brixton local, and when everyone's there, they take you out into the neighbourhood.

02 — The Walk

The history, on the streets where it happened

Windrush Square and the generation that arrived from the Caribbean and remade British life. The Black Cultural Archives. Atlantic Road, and how it came to be known as the Frontline. Then through the markets, alive with the produce, spice and noise of a neighbourhood that has been one of the engines of British culture for decades.

You're not shopping. You're looking, smelling, and gathering ideas for the rum you're about to make.

03 — The Flight

Five rums, and the world's most misunderstood spirit

Back at the distillery, a glass lands in your hand. You taste your way from raw cane spirit to aged Jamaican to our own Brixton-made house rum, and the conversation opens up — why rum, of all things; what Brixton Culture Capital is; how the history you just walked connects to what's in the glass. By the end, you'll understand rum in a way most people who drink it never do.

04 — The Making

Your recipe, our stills

In small teams, you settle your recipe — measure the spices and botanicals that will make your bottle taste like no one else's. Our distillers charge the stills and set them running; by law, the distilling is ours to do. Then, while the rum works, we take you round the corner.

05 — The Feast

A proper sit-down Jamaican feast — not a snack to pass the time — at a restaurant that has fed this neighbourhood for over twenty years, hosted by the owner with the stories behind the food.

Included in your ticket. Appetite required.

A flask of caramel on the scales — the finishing touches that make the bottle yours

06 — The Bottle

Finish it. Name it. Raise it.

By the time you walk back, your rum is ready. Finish it to taste — vanilla, caramel, the last touches that make it yours — then bottle it, name it, label it. Everyone pours a measure of their own creation and we raise a glass together: to Brixton, and to a 200ml bottle that exists because you made it.

Non-drinkers

Nobody sits out

Non-drinkers follow the whole afternoon — the walk, the flight with a Caribbean botanical alternative in the glass, the feast — and make and bottle their own Caribbean botanical syrup to take home instead of rum. Same afternoon, same table, same ritual, different bottle.

The price is the same, because what you're paying for is the day, not just the alcohol. Tell us how many in your group aren't drinking when you book.

For private bookings of ten or more there's a separate rate, and we'll shape the day around your group. hello@brixtonculture.com →

Questions

FAQ

Do I need to know anything about rum or distilling?

+

No. We assume nothing. The technical side is ours; the choices, the tasting, the eating and the making are yours. What you need is curiosity and an appetite.

I don't drink — is this still for me?

+

Yes. Nobody sits out. You follow the whole afternoon — the walk, the flight with a Caribbean botanical alternative in the glass, the feast — and you make and bottle your own Caribbean botanical syrup instead of rum. Same afternoon, same table, same ritual, different bottle. Tell us how many in your group aren't drinking when you book.

How big are the sessions?

+

Small. Four to a still, sixteen guests maximum, so it stays hands-on and personal. Each session needs a minimum of eight guests to run; if we fall below that, we'll let you know at least 48 hours ahead and offer another date or a full refund.

Can I book it privately for a team or a celebration?

+

Yes — it works beautifully for teams, celebrations and company days out. For private bookings of ten or more, email hello@brixtonculture.com and we'll shape the day around your group. There's a separate rate.

How much walking is there?

+

A fair amount, on city streets and through markets. If you or anyone in your group has limited mobility, contact us before booking and we'll talk through what's possible.

Do I really take rum home?

+

A 200ml bottle, distilled on the day, finished to your taste, named by you and labelled by you. You must be 18 or over to take home distilled spirit — we may ask for ID.

Brixton has been telling this story longer than we have.

Come and spend an afternoon inside it.
